This joint publication of the Miteco (Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge) and the Tagus Hydrographic Confederation, with a prologue by Joaquín Araújo, describes 25 of the Fluvial Natural Reserves of the Tagus Basin declared prior to November 2022.
The Fluvial Nature Reserves (RNF), a protection area included within the general category of hydrological reserves, aim to preserve watercourses of rivers, lakes and their beds, as well as aquifers, that are representative, have high ecological value and with little or no human intervention.
In the Monfragüe National Park there are two Fluvial Nature Reserves: the Malvecino River and the Barbaón River. In addition, in the province of Cáceres there are those of the Árrago River, Garganta de los Infiernos, Garganta Mayor, Almonte River, Gualija River and Mesto River.
Presented by Joaquín Araújo, naturalist, communicator, countryman and poet, and Estefanía Chereguini Cabezas, head of the Tagus Hydrographic Confederation Service.
