Painting birds from nature, with José Antonio Sencianes

February 19th | 10:00-13:00

Portilla del Tiétar

The naturalist José Antonio Sencianes will give a workshop on drawing and painting birds from nature at the Salto del Gitano, one of the most emblematic viewpoints in the Monfragüe National Park. The participants will approach the methodology of field work in bird painting, with the help of the telescope. To do this, they will use graphite pencil and watercolour as the main techniques, paying attention to the anatomy of birds, their proportions, lights and shadows in nature, colour and composition.

José Antonio Sencianes, a graduate of the San Telmo School of Art in Malaga, has worked and collaborated as a designer and illustrator in magazines, for associations and other bodies throughout Europe in the preparation of information material, exhibitions, interpretation centres and publications. Among other recognitions, he has won the I Naturalist Painting Contest organized by SEO Birdlife in 2014. He was the designer of the FIO 2019 poster, dedicated to the pin-tailed sandgrouse, and in 2020 he published ‘Donyanae lumen’, his first book, which already has two editions. He works as a designer and illustrator at the Casa de la Ciencia Museum in Seville and is a member of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC).
