Award winning photos in 2019

The XIV Nature Photography Contest ‘Wild Birds’, organized by the Directorate General of Tourism, broke its record participation in 2019 with 4,681 images received.

The winners in the six categories were:

  • ‘Gipeto’, by Stanislao Basileo, has won the 1st award and the category ‘Aves en su entorno’. Award endowed with 1650 euros.
  • ‘Family portrait’, by Juan Buixareu, has won in the category ‘Retratos de aves’. Category endowed with 700 euros.
  • ‘I am the boss’, by Dario Ferrandi, has won in the category ‘Aves en acción’. Category endowed with 700 euros.
  • ‘Camuflaje blanco’, by Vincenç Gimeno, has won in the category of ‘Visión artística de las aves’. Category endowed with 700 euros.
  • ‘Sutil elegancia’, by Carlos Pérez Naval, has won in the category of ‘Jóvenes fotógrafos’. Category endowed with 550 euros.
  • ‘Cormodrilo’, by José Luis Barriga, has won in the category ‘Fotógrafo extremeño’. Category endowed with 700 euros.


The awards ceremony took place on February 23th at 6.30 pm in the Photography Conference and Workshops tent and was given by the climatologist Roberto Brasero of Antena 3 TV.

They formed the jury for the contest:

  • Juan Aragonés Espino, photographer.
  • Pablo Bou Mira, photographer.
  • Mario Cea Sánchez, photographer representing the Spanish Association of Nature Photographers (Aefona).
  • Joaquín Dávalos Méndez, Technician of the Directorate General of Environment of the Regional Government of Extremadura.
  • Joaquín Figueredo González, photographer on behalf of Colectivo Extremeño de Fotógrafos de Naturaleza (CEFNA).
  • Óscar J. González Hernández, photographer.
  • Ana Retamero Olmos, photographer.
  • Isabel Rodríguez Ruíz, photographer.
  • Jorge Javier Rubio Casado, photographer.
  • Mario Suárez Porras, photographer.
